****WARNING: THIS EPISODE REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS***

Grown-ish is a show that is a spin-off of ABC”s Black-ish. I’ve watched Black-ish before and it was hilarious, but never have I never watched Grown-ish. To be quite frank, I barely watch TV anymore. There is just never enough hours in the day. After watching strictly for research purposes, I realized it is a sitcom about a girl adulting, and learning how to deal with the problems that adults, and even sometimes minors face. Since I have so many positive things to say about Black-ish I just knew I had to watch one episode of this show.

I watched the most episode of Grown-ish, Episode 8, titled. “Erase Your Social Media” The episode begins with Zoe and her friends discussing the many different types of reasons that people of this media driven generation use social media.

On this episode Zoey has a “Verified.” Meaning her Instagram account, has been deemed official. This is a common feature on lots of social media for public figures/celebrities to match up with the correct account.

Zoey’s friends make her feel bad about her social media usage-- so she goes on a social meida blackout. During this time off, Zoey is trying to talk to her friends and their eyes are glued to their phones. She notices what life is like when you take your focus off of social media, and actually try to interact with the world. Social media has become such an important daily occurance for people. She even notices that she and people around her post their every single move. There is never a day where you cannot catch a stranger, friend, or even celebrity on social media.

Social media started out as a new way of communication and then it transformed into the way that you can distract yourself from what is expected from the real world. It has become used as a pastime and not really treated as a luxury. Not only is technology advancing by the day by the features of technology, which would include social media.

Social media permits and prohibits so much, so I would be lying if I said that we should get rid of social media once and for all. I do believe that people must all find a purpose for having a social media account. It allows people to showcase their lives, in the way that they but it can sometimes backfire. Nowadays, people have been accustomed to getting to know a person just by looking at social media, and sometimes people can assume wrong and then go spread lies about you.

Zoey gets her dream job, working under the CEO of TeenVogue and this is during her social media hiatus she’s selected for a big assignment. But she couldn’t help herself. Zoey feels so accomplished in life that she finally made it, and she decides to let the whole entire Instagram through a picture. The next morning, she realizes that she’s messed up big time because in the picture not only did she reveal a beautiful picture of herself, but she leaked the new collection of Teen Vogue. It was an awful mistake, and when she gets to work she hopes she receives mercy from her boss. Her boss explains to her that she ruined a big marketing deal by just by one little mistake on social media. That didn’t work out for her in the end, and she was no longer a protégé. Someone else takes her job and now she is back at square one. To be honest, mistake she made was one that many my age would’ve done. Post without thinking. This goes to show people me that we must be very cautious of everything we say, post, and make public on social media. One little mistake can cost you everything you’ve worked for.

Usually, when people try to love something too much, it backfires on them, and they end up second-guessing why they tried to appreciate it in the first place. They say alcohol and drugs can kill because they are substances that are addicting, but to be honest there’s a lot more where they came from. Anything that you can make yourself get addicted, or obsessed to is just as bad.

So what is social media?

A.Deadly,
B. Lethal,
C. Dangerous
D. All of the above!

As far as Grown-ish goes, it is one of those type of shows where the lessons learned can vary depending on the person. I can see myself binge watching this show if I ever have some down time. I’m a sophomore in high school and before I know it, I will be a senior in high school turning 18. I strongly urge everyone to make arrangements in their agenda to watch Grown-ish. And as far as our social media goes, don’t ever want to forget that once something goes viral then it is impossible to get rid of, even if you take it down. Someone always has a track.
There is never a such thing as “Delete Forever.” One cannot erase their social media.
