Phoenix Captures Another W Against Newark Tech

Freshman Tara Johnson led the Phoenix volleyball team to victory with the most blocks against Newark Tech. Senior Destanie Jefferson said, "As a first year player, she plays on a higher level and she plays a special part in the Big Six."

On Thursday, Oct. 5th, University Lady Phoenix's volleyball team sweeps past St. Vincent’s Academy Panther’s in two easy sets.

University dominates on the court as everyone contributed equally and kept up their confidence, according to Lady Phoenix volleyball players. Captains Emanni Jenkins (senior) and Xarial Chandler (junior) states that “communication was good, could be great but as a team, we played great.” Confidence was a huge key to this victory according to seniors AJ Screven, Destanie Jefferson-Lee, and Tamara Johnson.

Tamara added, “We’re a developing team, confidence is going to come naturally.” AJ agreed but also added that “The energy and communication provided a huge role in the team’s confidence which made them play more efficiently.” Destanie then added “We’re playing at a faster pace now, before, when we played lower teams than ourselves, we played at their level. As we grow and increase our pace as the better teams we’ve played, we dominate the lower teams.” Then she added “Let’s Show them what we got, and that's what we did.”

As you can see the chemistry is building, the confidence is rising, and everyone is contributing in the best way they can. Let’s wish these ladies a great rest of the season and wish them luck that they make the playoffs.
