School Shooting in Kentucky Hits Close to Home

NY Daily News

On January 23, 2018, A High school in Kentucky experienced something they never thought could happen. A shooter had opened fire in Marshall County high school at 8:57 am. At least 2 people were killed and 18 are injured.

This isn’t the first time a school shooting had happened. School Shootings have been around for centuries but as the years go on, it starts getting out of hand. Many families are losing their children due to school shootings.
I asked several UHS students the following question, “ How do you feel knowing that Gun violence is a problem in Schools Today” .. Here are a couple of responses
Danielle Robinson: “ I feel as though it is getting outta hand. It’s like the main reason this happens is because the person is being bullied and they have have no one to talk to about it. Not only is school shooting a problem, it’s also suicide. “

Bianca Dodson: “ School shootings has been around forever to the point that it goes unnoticed. Everywhere you go, it a school shooting or a teen just committed suicide due to bullying. Bullying is main cause of these problems .”

Even though this happened in Kentucky, it still affects people all over because not only students but their parents have to be cautious about where they want to send their kid to school. It would take awhile to end the school shooting, teen suicide , and bullying to stop, but as for now we could try to help others in need.

If you ever feel as though you can’t talk to anyone , call the bullying Crisis Hotline (800-273-8255) or the
National Suicide Hotline (800-SUICIDE (784-2433) 800-442-HOPE (4673) ). Each hotline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Comments

  1. School shootings are becoming more and more common and is unfortunately becoming, by definition, a culture amongst the nation. It's saddening and unsettling.

  2. It’s very thoughtful that you put the suicide hotline and I think it’s important that although this didn’t happen in our state we still raise a certain kind of awareness. (This is Clinton)
